The Story
Every corner of The Bruce carries a story — one built on family, innovation, and the enduring spirit of Morilla.
Named in honour of Bruce and Norma Brummell, the first Brummells to call Morilla home, The Bruce celebrates their vision. In 1956, Bruce transformed a bare block into a thriving farm — designing and building the home, sheds, yards and infrastructure that still shape the property today. His ingenuity and determination laid the foundation for everything that followed.
That legacy now lives on through Sid and Brig Brummell — the third generation of Brummells on Morilla — who have brought new life to the property while preserving its history. Their dream was to create a space that honours those before them, using materials and stories that belong wholly to this land.
The walls of The Bruce are lined with weathered iron reclaimed from Bruce’s original buildings, and its floors are made from timber once considered “seconds,” now glowing with character and memory. Inside, you’ll meet Clarence — a wool cockatoo crafted from their own Merino fleece, a playful nod to Morilla’s long connection to sheep and wool.
For nearly 70 years, Morilla has raised and shorn Merinos. As Sid and Brig prepare for their final shearing, The Bruce stands as a tribute to those years of hard work, laughter, and life on the land — a place that holds the past proudly, while making room for the stories still to come.
We hope you feel the love, history and heart woven into every detail of The Bruce, and that your stay here brings the same warmth and connection this place has given our
family for generations.
